1. Sep 08, 2014 I am planning to buy new imac 21.5', my concern is about the processor speed. 1.4GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 processor (Turbo Boost up to 2.7GHz) with 3MB shared L3 cache means the actual speed is 1.4 Ghz or 2.7 Ghz??
  2. Jul 01, 2013  Sorry to revive a fairly old thread, but how well do you think the dual core i5 would fare with ableton? Im on a tight budget of about £700 (or $1000) and was thinking the mini would be a decent upgrade to my 2010 iMac.
  3. Measuring one core a 2014 (benchmark result 3460) is 6% faster than one core on my 2012 machine (benchmark 3257). But measuring multicores my old 2012 mac (benchmark 12705) is 79% stronger than 2014 mac mini (benchmark 7095). And ask around this forum about problems with dual core CPUs and you will know why I'm not recommending new mac minis.

Technical support

Need help with setting up or other technical issues?

Ok, I *know* I will probably notice the difference somehow, but how will it be obvious in terms of music making? Will I notice it in Ableton Live (more plug-ins?)? Will I notice it if I run several applications at once? etc.Ableton

Dual Core Mac Ableton 4

The reason I ask, is that I want to upgrade from my two year old MacBook Pro.
I am considering the 13' MBP with 2.9GHz (dual core), or the 15' 2.3GHz MBP (quad core). I really like the smaller form factor and weight of the 13', but, of course, I have seen the Geekbench benchmarks for the 15' (about 11.000, vs. the 8.000 of the 13' MBP).
There is also a price difference - 13' is quite a bit cheaper. I already have a very nice Crucial M4 SSD, which will be transferred from my old Mac to the new Mac, so that will take care of disk speeds.
