I've been a Live user for a little over a month and I'm loving it. I'm going to upgrade to Suite as soon as I make the decision on whether or not I need Session Drums.

Once installed, the Pack displays in Live's browser and any available lessons open in the Help view. How to install a Pack using a downloaded.alp file (Live 9 and Live 10) Open the Pack description page and click 'Download'. Or download it directly from your User Account. Samples download ableton. Live packs download in the ALP format. Session Drums Club also includes 20 MIDI Clips in various styles and patterns played by renowned professional session drummer Shawn Pelton. Each Clip loads with a full drum kit and you can easily swap out the entire Drum Rack or individual Drum Hits to create your own custom kit. Session Drums Club was created in collaboration with Chocolate Audio. We officially support Ableton Live 9 Session Drums! If you use Live 9, we have a couple options for midi drum loops: 1. If you have Live 9 Suite and have installed that version of “Session Drums”, you can use the loops stored in the folder labeled with “Live 9 SD”.

I'm wondering about installing Session Drums on an external hard drive. Has there ever been a definitive answer on whether or not this works/is a good idea? I've been reading threads on the subject for two days and it seems that some have had ok luck with it, some have had no luck with it, some say 'it can't be done', etc. The reason I need to know is because whether or not in can be done (and how much of a pain it is to use them once it's done) will probably be the deciding factor on whether or not I get the box or the download. I'm on a MBP with only about 40GB of space so I won't be installing Session Drums on the internal hard drive. Drum sound wise I really only use electronic sounds so I don't really need any acoustic drums but I figured for only $50 more (and if they can 'comfortably' be installed on an external HD) I might as well get the box.

The 4.5 GB of sampled drums in this Pack are divided up into 8 Drum Racks. Each Rack represents a complete kit captured in a great-sounding acoustic space, reminiscent of classic recordings of the past.
The individual Drum Hits include kicks of various sizes played with felt or plastic beaters as well as snares, sidesticks, rim shots and toms.
The ride, crash, splash and china cymbals as well as the hi hats come in a variety of sizes and articulations played via the pedal and tip or shank of the stick. Tambourine and cowbell samples are also included.
The 8 kits load as Drum Racks with 8 Macro Controls for tuning, envelope and EQ for each individual Drum Hit. Each drum in the Drum Rack also has its own channel and can therefore have its own effects and routing.
