For the longest time I tried to figure out to fully utilize my Yamaha Motif XF8 in Ableton Live 9 because the solution was never posted, or that I was the only one trying to do so. Well I figured it out and I would like to post this for anyone else trying to do the same.
Here is the Steps I took to make it work:
1) Turn on the keyboard BEFORE starting up Live 9
2) Click on the 'Options' tab in the menu bar and open up the 'Preferences' option at the bottom of the drop down window.
3) Select the 'MIDI Sync' Tab on the left and then you will see all of the options for Control Surfaces, Input, Output in the first section.
4) Set the Control Surface to 'MackieControl' / Input to 'Yamaha MOTIF XF8-2' / Output to 'Yamaha MOTIF XF8-2'
5) In the second part of that window you have the categories for MIDI Ports, Track, Sync, Remote
6) The first row should show 'Input: Yamaha MOTIF XF8-1'
7) In that row, switch the 'Track' ON and leave everything else OFF
Once that is set, go to your beautiful piece of piano perfection and press the 'REMOTE ON/OFF' button to the upper right side of the mixing sliders to the left of the display so that it blinking red.
Now your set, you should be able to use all of the buttons, knobs and sliders throughout the whole keyboard since the MOTIF has an MIDI Auto Map feature on it. By pressing the 'SF 1-3' you can change how the data is displayed from Live 9 onto the MOTIF's screen. Your track names should be abbreviated above the level meters by default, but you can show additional data by using the 'SF' buttons below the MOTIF's display.

The buttons furthest left on the XF8 body 'Selected Part Control' - Zone - 'Multi Part Control' are used to change what parameters you are focusing on adjusting.

Ableton Live 9 Suite Tutorial

I hope this helped someone out with a MOTIF XF-8 or any XF series at that.. I am not sure if they are all similar being that I only have ever owned in XF-8. If there is something that I didn't cover or my instructions were unclear.. feel free to ask, I will do my best on my end to help you out. If it worked for you, HAVE FUN!
